Overview

The National Aquarium is a multi-building Inner Harbor attraction with sharks, dolphins, coral-reef habitats, and an outdoor salt-marsh exhibit. Its exhibit route connects habitats including Blacktip Reef, Atlantic Coral Reef, Dolphin Discovery, Australia: Wild Extremes and the Upland Tropical Rain Forest. The Harbor Wetland, a free outdoor salt-marsh exhibit between Piers 3 and 4, can be visited without an Aquarium ticket during its posted hours.

This is a strong all-weather outing for families interested in marine life, but it requires more planning than a typical museum visit. Admission uses timed entry, the exhibit route does not permit general stroller use, and outside food and drinks cannot be brought into the buildings. Check the current hours and reserve tickets before leaving home.

What to know before you go

  • Hours: The schedule changes by month and occasionally for special events. For July and August 2026, the posted hours are Monday–Thursday 9 a.m.–6 p.m., Friday and Saturday 9 a.m.–9 p.m., and Sunday 9 a.m.–7 p.m. Last entry is 60 minutes before closing. Confirm your date on the official visit page; Harbor Wetland has its own hours and may close for weather or darkness.
  • General admission: As verified July 10, 2026, adults ages 21–69 are $49.95, youth ages 5–20 and seniors 70+ are $39.95, and children 4 and under are free. Prices and availability can change, so use the official ticket store for the final total and entry times.
  • Maryland Mornings: Maryland residents can receive $10 off adult admission or $5 off youth, senior and military admission before noon Monday–Friday. These tickets must be purchased on-site with proof of residency, cannot be combined with other offers and have blackout dates. Check the special-offers page before relying on the discount.
  • Half-Price Friday Night: Admission is currently $24.95 per person after 5 p.m. on Fridays. This year-round offer is available online or on-site on Friday evenings; verify the date on the official event page.
  • Military pricing: Eligible adults with active military ID or veteran ID can currently purchase $39.95 on-site admission. Active-duty, reserve and retired service members can also check their MWR or ITT office for available rates. The official offers page lists eligibility and accepted identification.
  • Parking: The Aquarium currently has four partner garages: Pier V Garage (711 E. Pratt St.), Harbor Park Garage (55 Market Place), LAZ Inner Harbor Garage (100 S. Gay St.) and Parkway Lockwood Place Garage (124 Market Place). The posted guest rate is $18 for up to 24 hours, either reserved online through the links on the visit page or applied by validating the garage ticket inside the Aquarium. Members receive a $10 rate by validating inside and should not reserve online in advance.
  • Strollers: Strollers are not permitted on the regular exhibit route. Limited stroller check is available near the Main Entrance, but the Aquarium recommends leaving strollers at home when possible. Adults or children who need a stroller for limited mobility may obtain a wheelchair tag at stroller check and follow the designated accessible route.
  • Food: Outside food and drinks are not allowed inside Aquarium buildings. Picnic tables and benches are available outside, and the Aquarium encourages guests to bring reusable water bottles for its refill stations. Pier 3 Cafe and Pier 4 Canteen are open daily; Harbor View Room is normally open Friday–Sunday and select weekdays.
  • Re-entry: Hand stamps are available at the exit doors for guests who need to leave and return later that day.
  • Bathrooms and infant care: All bathrooms have changing tables. A family restroom is on the ground floor of Blue Wonders near stroller check. The Guest Relations Room on Level 1 of Blue Wonders is a private quiet space for families, and the Aquarium's accessibility guide identifies a separate nursing suite there.
  • Accessibility: The Aquarium says all entrances, exhibits, theaters, restrooms and elevators are wheelchair accessible. Manual wheelchairs may be borrowed free with a driver's-license deposit on a first-come basis. Accessible drop-off is at Gunther Circle. The Aquarium also provides an audio tour, a Braille tour, presentation scripts, listening and captioning devices in the 4D theater, and sign-language interpreters by request with two weeks' notice.

Tips for families

  • Reserve an entry time before traveling. The Aquarium warns that weekends, holidays and peak periods can sell out quickly. Non-holiday weekdays are its recommended off-peak option.
  • Plan around the stroller rule. Use a wearable carrier if that works for your family, or confirm the accessible-stroller process with the Aquarium before your visit if a stroller is needed for mobility.
  • Choose a partner garage deliberately. Use one of the four garages currently listed on the official visit page, and either reserve through the Aquarium's link or bring the garage ticket inside for validation. Members must validate inside to receive the member rate.
  • Consider a same-day meal break. Outside food is not allowed in the buildings, but picnic seating is available outside and hand stamps permit re-entry later that day.
  • Check the daily schedule after booking. Animal encounters, presentations and add-on experiences vary by date. The daily schedule is more reliable than planning around a particular program in advance.
  • Treat the 4D theater as optional. Its films require a separate ticket and include effects such as strobe lighting, seat movement and dramatic sound. The current tours page lists 4D films at $6 per person, but titles and availability rotate.
  • Visit Harbor Wetland while it is open. The outdoor exhibit is free and does not require Aquarium admission. Its hours may be shorter than the main building's, and it can close unexpectedly in poor weather or after dark.
  • Use the official accessibility resources. Stroller check lends sensory bags, audio-tour equipment and tactile animal bags. Guest Services has Braille materials and presentation scripts. Some loaned items require photo ID.
